Bespoke Test Design & Assessment MaterialsBespoke
Test Design

An exciting and innovative approach to curriculum development is a vital part of a school or academy delivering great education.
Once you have designed your curriculum you will need to think about the role assessment plays within it.

We have a team of highly experienced subject specialists who can help schools, academies, LEAs & MATs with bespoke test design.

Working with your curriculum documents (curriculum intent) and in close partnership with your teaching teams, we can design original assessment materials that work alongside your curriculum so you can assess the impact of your curriculum.

The journey towards great bespoke assessment materials

  • Stage 1 – You provide us with your curriculum documents and give us clear specifications for your tests and guidance on design and layout. If you are unsure about any of this, we can work with you and make suggestions.
  • Stage 2 – Our Assessment Box Subject Specialists create original assessment materials. These are then turned into a professional print product by our Graphic Design Department.
  • Stage 3 – The assessment materials are forwarded to you for review. You note any changes you require and feed back to us.
  • Stage 4 – At this stage we suggest you take a small sample of students and get them to trial the papers. This is a crucial piece of input as it is the learners, not the teachers who will be sitting these tests.
  • Stage 5 – The assessment materials are returned to us for final edits and formatting.
  • Stage 6 – The final assessment materials are delivered to you for use.

Key Concepts in
Curriculum & Test Design

OfSTED, School Inspection Handbook, September 2019 sets out three important concepts that will prove useful in this context. Keeping these at the forefront of your thinking will really help sharpen and clarify your thinking about curriculum design and the role you want assessment to play within it.
Office-And-Business

Concept No. 1Intent

The curriculum intent is the way the curriculum sets out the knowledge and skills pupils will gain and when. This is what you expect the students to know. Curriculum Intent is very much linked curriculum design which is about what you are delivering and why. Curriculum Leadership is vital at all stages but especially at the intent stage.
Office-And-Business

Concept No. 2Implementation

The implementation of the curriculum is concerned with how your intent is actually realised. How do you deliver the curriculum and assess to build knowledge? How do you actually covert your curriculum intent into courses, schemes of work, learning experiences and individual lessons.
Corporate-Business

Concept No. 3Impact

Have the pupils learnt the things you have taught them? What are the outcomes pupils receive as a result of the education they have engaged with? If you find out that pupils don’t know certain things, what are you going to do about it? Bespoke Tests and Assessment Materials can be particularly useful here and within the context of any successful curriculum.

Assessment
Materials

At The Assessment Box, we have teamed up with some of the most experienced practitioners and Senior Examiners in the sector to produce original assessment materials for schools & academies.

Our assessment packs comprise original papers along with mark schemes for use under licence. You can buy them in conjunction with our assessment services or as a stand-alone product. They are produced in-line with specification standards in terms of layout and content.

There are pat papers available in most specifications but if pupils are to be ready for the terminal examinations they need wide and expensive exposure to a variety of quality assessment materials that really challenge them.
